Day 6--in Oregon

We have been having a great time in the lovely state of Oregon. After visiting the Bard in Ashland and camping alongside the Rogue River, we headed into Salem to visit my Auntie Midge and my cousin Kathy and husband Dennis. Dinner and a great tour of Capitol Manor where my aunt lives. Ken had never been there before, so it was fun for him to see.

Last night we drove to Corvallis where my college roommate lives. Wow, her watercolors and her husband Steve's framing work is just beautiful! They're quite a team. Such a great testament to the Pacific Northwest where they live and work. Jan is also a cookbook author, food and wine critic, and an accomplished cook. She cooked dinner for us at Margaret and Will's house (her parents) . They live nearby, and as Jan says, they have the "party" house. We met Rosie, M and W's Katrina rescue dog. She's an old girl, very sweet Lab/Pit mix.
The BBQ'd Chateaubriand was excellent, and fresh wonderful asparagus. And since I also grew up with Jan and know her family, we had a lot of catching up to do. Good wine, good company--lots of talking and laughing, taking pictures--I promise I'll get some pictures up soon!

Next blog I'll tell you about some hiking we've done already, and our amazing tour of the historic town of Aurora, about an hour north of Salem.

Happy trails to everyone, and we hope you have a chance to do a little travel this summer!

  1. It was so good to catch up! Steve & I were honored that you two carved out a late afternoon-into-evening for some quality time to catch up. The years have been kind to you both. Good Karma, I think! And Linda, I'm definitely on those Mephisto sandals. Love 'em!
I wish for you both plenty of wiggle room to accomodate those unscheduled hikes like the one at Silver Creek Falls, quilt shops, well-stocked REI's, and all the Pacific Northwesterners you're going to charm the pants off of.
    Happy Trails back at you.
    Love,
Jan (& Steve, & Margaret & Will too)
